Negotiation is like performing a dance
You move smoothly from one side to the other
You speed it up and slow it down
You turn left and you turn right, back and forth.
It is that state of flow which is the basis of every great negotiation.
And it takes a lot of practice
You always have to consider, that you want one thing, while your negotiation partner might want something else.
How do you create a situation, that you can call win-win?
Here are 5 steps to achieve that:
1. Get to know your negotiation partner!
Find out as much as possible from him or her.
Who is he?
what does he want or need?
What does he do for fun?
What skills does he have?
How long has he been in that company?
2. Be clear about the point of deal break
What is the point, which you would consider as deal breaker?
That’s the point where you feel, you cannot continue negotiation, as it is impossible to reach your win situation.
3. Build rapport
Find and discuss common interests!
We do business with the people we like.
4. Get some Yes’s from your partner
Agree with the other person as much as possible!
Make him agree with you as much as possible!
5. Visualize your win-win situation
What will you, what will your partner have achieved?
Have the next steps prepared!
Be ready to sign that contract!
